Election Day Lunar Eclipse

Between 5:16 a.m. and 6:41 a.m. EST on November 8, Election Day, a total lunar eclipse is scheduled to occur. When the earth is positioned exactly between the moon and the sun, its shadow falls on the surface of the moon, dimming it and sometimes turning the lunar surface red according to NASA. What makes this significant is that it is the first time in the history of the United States (246 years) that Election Day will fall on the same day as a blood moon. We are told by scientists that it will not happen again in the United States on Election Day for another 372 years, November 8, 2394. So, this is a lifetime event!
 
There are several references in the Bible to blood moons. First, let us look at the verses in Joel, Chapter 2:  "Blow the trumpet in Zion; sound the alarm on my holy hill. Let all who live in the land tremble, for the day of the Lord is coming; it is close at hand...A large and mighty army comes, such as never was in ancient times nor ever will be in ages to come." (Verses 1-2) "Before them the earth shakes, the heavens tremble, the sun and moon are darkened, and the stars no longer shine. The Lord thunders at the head of His army; His forces are beyond number, and mighty is the army that obeys His command. The day of the Lord is great; it is dreadful. Who can endure it?" (Verses 10-11) Obviously, we are reading Joel's prophecy of the end times.
 
Jesus warned His disciples: "Watch out that no one deceives you...You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed...Nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.” (Matthew 24:4-8) Jesus continues:  "For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man...Immediately after the distress of those days 'the sun will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.' Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven." (Matthew 24:27-30) Here Jesus is warning His disciples about the end times and repeats some of what Joel has already said.
 
The opening of the scrolls written about by John in Revelation 6 also gives warnings about the last days. "I watched as he opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair. The whole moon turned blood red, and the stars in the sky fell to earth, as figs drop from a fig tree when shaken by a strong wind." (Revelation 6:12-13) One must wonder:  What is the significance of the red moon for our day? We want to be prepared for that day when the Lord returns, and certainly this is a call to prayer for Believers everywhere! The individuals placed into office on the day of the total lunar eclipse will play a major part in transforming our country as we draw closer and closer to the end times and the return of Jesus.
 
Psalm 19 reminds us of how God uses the heavens. "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. They have no speech; they use no words; no sound is heard from them. Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the end of the world..." (Psalm 19:1-4) Let us ponder the message of the total lunar eclipse on November 8 and pray for God's will to be done on earth as it is in heaven.
